CEO Update


Hello again members.

Well, just a few things have happened since our last newsletter back in March. Goodness me!

Were you one of the many who walked with the players in the inaugural Queanbeyan Skins (the forerunner to the highly successful 2020 Queanbeyan Pro-Am)? What a great day, and thanks again to Jake, Jack, James and Matt for thrilling us with their sensational golf, as well as their charms both on and off the golf course.

Of course, virtually as soon as the players left the golf course after the Pro-Am, it felt like the world had fallen in!

Now, I’m not going to spend paragraphs detailing the ebbs and flows of the past few months. They have been well documented on our website, Facebook pages and Instagram. What I wish to do, is say thank you.

Thank you to the staff, who stuck by the club at its lowest possible point. With the golf course closed, and the clubhouse shutdown, for quite a few moments there, we all thought we should’ve listened to our folks and scored a tidy Public Service job in the city! I am so immensely proud of the way in which the staff (including of course Victor and his crew, and Jake and the boys) took the news, and responded in such a positive, chin-out, eyes-up manner. In my 35 years in the club industry, I have not seen such a finer expression of self-sacrifice, for the good of the club overall.

Thank you to the Board, for their support during these dark days and nights. With everybody put in such a place of unknowing, in such a short time space, the Board held itself together, and acted carefully, judiciously and caringly to every decision made during the lockdown (and still does). Their decision to impose a $5.00 levy on members, to assist with keeping the “wolf from the door”, was an inspired and courageous one.

Thank you to the members. Especially those members who took the imposition of the $5.00 levy in their stride. You folks have SAVED THE CLUB. Simple as that! For without the levy, our doors would be shut, and there would be weeds growing up through what were once the best greens in NSW.

The President has more to say on this subject in his article, and also invites members to renew subscriptions for the upcoming season.

President's Message

Dear Members,

Once again thank you to everyone for their continued co-operation and support during these challenging times for us all.

It has been a significant challenge for the Board to meet and decide on issues due to the lockdown and restrictions, and the frequency of information as it changes. I thank all Directors for their participation and support. Our CEO Tony Treeve and Treasurer Cathy Hanrahan have done an outstanding job in managing us through this crisis to date.

Our clubhouse is now open to 50% capacity, so please utilise the facilities and continue to comply with all directives from staff whilst on the premises, and remain aware of your responsibilities to everyone around you. Our course is looking great for this time of year and available to members and invited guests only currently, with restrictions still in place.

Membership Renewal
It is membership renewal time, and the subscriptions have been finalised for all options, and forms are available from reception and on the website. There has been a slight increase of around $50.00 across all options. As you will appreciate it costs a significant amount of money to prepare and maintain our course and we have forecast $1M for next year which may be a surprise to many of you.

We have an early renewal offer again this year for a motorised buggy to the value of $1499.00. Last year we had 80 entries, so a 1 in 80 chance to win that is very good odds. Early bird closes 30/6/2020.

Sponsorship/Corporate packages are also now available and ready for signup immediately. Please contact reception where we can arrange a meeting and finalise.

Comp Fee of $18.00
You will no doubt recall that the Board imposed a $5.00 increase in the comp fee to $18.00, which was to provide a revenue cashflow for the club during the COVID-19 restrictions and clubhouse shutdown. Your participation has been greatly appreciated by the Board.

The clubhouse shutdown has affected the livelihoods of all the clubhouse, bistro staff & greens staff, of which many staff members were either stood down, or voluntarily reduced their wages rates and/or working hours to keep the overall club afloat. Whilst the JobKeeper subsidy now provides some welcome relief, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has left all our hardworking and personable staff with significantly reduced earnings.

The Board have agreed that the $5.00 increase will continue until further notice, in order for QGC to sustain cashflow for critical business transactions until the end of COVID-19 impacts, which is proposed for the end of September at this stage. As soon as all the deferred/current payments and bills have been finalised, we will be able to consider removal of the $5.00 from the competition fee.

Early removal of the $5.00 fee would put at risk the sustainability of QGC.

On Line Survey
Some of you will have witnessed our VP Scott Cameron obtaining member feedback which has proved very beneficial for the Board when making decisions re membership, $5.00 levy and raising any issues. This process will be repeated by way of an online survey which will be conducted in the

coming months for all member feedback. Members are requested to participate and provide feedback when it becomes available.

The Dodgers Volunteer Program
Once again we are all extremely indebted to the Dodgers for the amazing work they all do around the course. Ray Hart and his band of merry men and women lift the course aesthetics to another level.

Course Developments
As per the course plan the prioritised work is the

· 11th Fairway renovation

· Closure of Brown St which includes the 1st and 9th fairway and path upgrade

We had funds to do this work prior to COVID-19 impact and will reassess following COVID-19 finalisation.

Divot Boxes

With the new couched tees "going dormant" the Greenstaff have now included Rye Seed in these boxes to assist the tees during the winter months. It makes it more important that we fill in divots on these tees.

If you are playing with someone and they take a divot and don’t fix it, Can you either fix the divot with the sand provided in the Divot Boxes or nicely suggest that they do so. 

Practicing on the Course

Just a reminder to golfers that we have practice facilities and that the golf course is not a place for a myriad of balls.  Please refrain from doing this and keep your practice to 2 balls whilst on the course

Repairing Pitch Marks

It bogs the course staff down when it comes to cutting greens. Repairing pitch marks is important before the blades can properly do their work, otherwise there’s a danger of causing even more damage.

So let's make an effort to not only do yours but any others you see on the Greens.

Junior Clinics

Ring the Pro Shop on 6297 1669 for info on when these will start again

When: Usually 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month during School Terms
Time: 4pm for approximately 45 minutes.
Cost: $10 per clinic
To book call the pro shop on 6297 2542 on the morning to confirm you child's attendance.

Bookings & Competition Results on Mobile Devices

To view comp results, log in as if you are making a booking. Press on the menu bar on the top right.  A menu will come up.  Click on Results 2nd from the bottom. 
If you are still having problems viewing the results:
  • On iPhones, if you open Safari and click to open a new browser page there is a Private button on the bottom left of the screen.  Same is the case on an iPad.  The Private button should not be highlighted, otherwise the page is in Private browsing mode.
  • On Android devices, this is called Incognito Browsing, and this is turned on or off via the browser menu.

Ladies come and try golf

  • Sunday afternoons at 2.15pm for a 2.30pm. No experience needed. No need to book.
  • Play 8 holes in an all Beginner Women’s Comp. Cost only $10. Meet and pay at the Pro Shop.
  • You will learn about golf in a friendly and non-threatening environment with help to enjoy the game at whatever level you would like.
  • If you are only available on another weekday and would like to give golf a go then phone Pauline (see below) and see what can be arranged.
  • Professional lessons available from Jake Nagle and his team at the Pro Shop. Ph. 6297 2542. Check for Ladies clinics and packages at affordable prices.
  • Membership for women available in all categories. Get a handicap and play in the Women’s competition on Tuesday, Saturday and medley Sundays.
It’s fun and you will be helped all the way.

Cart 20 Card – A prepaid cart pass is now available from the pro shop. The pass will provide for 20 9/18 hole rounds for the discounted price of $475. Carts are subject to availability.
