Queanbeyan’s golf course is set to be a whole lot greener thanks to $400,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro said Queanbeyan golf course would use the funding to replace the aging, inefficient irrigation system.

“Queanbeyan golf course is one of the top regional courses in NSW, which is why we have seen some of the most prestigious golfing events held here,” Mr Barilaro.

“The club has undergone a huge revamp and this is the final piece of the puzzle for the club.

“A lot of hard work goes into maintaining this course and it is important that the infrastructure is up to scratch.

“This funding will make a huge difference for the club and ensure the course is watered year round.”

The project will see the more than 40 year old inefficient system replaced with a new modernised one. This will ensure the club can future proof the course against drought while maintaining best practice for future use.

Queanbeyan Golf Club President John Bull said the funding would boost the club’s ability to manage its water use in an economically and sustainable way.

“This news couldn’t come at a better time – we were thrilled to secure some of the biggest events on the golfing calendar in previous years and this funding is just the icing on the cake.

“We have a wide range of players that use our course so it will be great to be able to keep the course in top condition for our local and visiting players.”

The $500 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, which has invested in more than 1900 local projects or programs that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW.
